Biceps Tendinitis

  • Biceps tendinitis is when one of the fibrous bands that attach your biceps muscle to your shoulder becomes irritated or strained. Symptoms include a deep, throbbing ache in the front of your shoulder or outside of your arm that increases when initiating activity.

  • It is often caused by repetitive overhead activities that pinch the tendon and may be accompanied by other conditions like rotator cuff tears or injuries to the shoulder joint cartilage.

  • Surgery is rarely needed for biceps tendon problems, and most cases can be treated with conservative care, like the type provided in our office. Initially, you may need to avoid heavy or repetitive activity, including overhead military presses, upright rows, and wide grip bench presses.
