Rib Pain

  • Rib pain can be acute or chronic. Usually a specific incident causes acute rib pain. If the pain seems to be more recurring, it might be considered slipping rib syndrome. This means one or more of your lower ribs has become excessively mobile and is not staying properly aligned, allowing it to slip up and under the adjacent rib. This irritates the sensitive nerves that run along the rib borders, resulting in sharp, stabbing pain in the lower chest or upper abdomen.

  • The condition can be triggered by physical activity, injury, or even coughing and deep breathing. The pain can be quite intense and may be accompanied by a popping or clicking sensation.

  • Your personalized treatment plan includes various techniques like manual therapy, soft tissue therapies, and rehab exercises to help reduce pain, promote healing, and restore proper function. You may need to temporarily limit stressful activities, such as heavy lifting or vigorous twisting motions.
