• Temporomandibular disorder (TMJ) is a group of problems causing pain in the jaw joint. Symptoms include limited mouth opening, jaw clicking or locking, and pain near the ear that can spread to the face, neck, shoulders, and head.

  • TMJ may start due to muscle imbalances, issues with the joint disc, or bone problems in the joint. TMJ is common and affects up to 25% of people, especially those with poor posture, stress, or who grind or clench their teeth.

  • TMJ treatment begins with gentle massage, jaw and neck exercises, and stretches. Avoid gum, tough foods, and excessive talking. Use a custom mouth guard to prevent night grinding.
