Torn Labrum
-
Labrum tears are common in athletes, particularly throwers. Complaints often include a deep, vague shoulder pain that is provoked by reaching. Weakness and popping, grinding, or catching are possible symptoms as well as a feeling of instability or pain with overhead movement.
-
This type of injury is caused by repetitive strain or, less commonly, by trauma such as a fall onto an outstretched arm.
-
Most experts suggest trying non-surgical treatments first. Avoid activities that cause a lot of pain, especially throwing or overhead activity. Rehab exercises and strengthening of the surround shoulder capsule can help long term outcomes.
