What is spinal decompression?
At MVP Chiropractic, we are super excited to offer spinal decompression to the Omaha community. Our spine is made up of 26 vertebral bones and form spinal joints throughout our spine. These spinal segments are cushioned by the “shock absorbers” of the spine, called discs. When these discs get irritated from repetitive stress or from an overexertion of force, it can cause a disc bulge, disc herniation, or disc derangement. A disc injury puts unwanted pressure on the spine and can cause an inflammatory response.
Spinal decompression is used to help relive the pressure from our spine by gently stretching our spinal segments and allowing more freedom of movement for our spinal joints. By relieving the pressure on the discs, our nerves become less irritated and promote disc rehydration. A treatment plan for disc herniations is a series of spinal decompression over the course of several weeks. A typical treatment session lasts about 10-15 minutes and involves you lying down and hooked up to a traction unit that slowly stretches the spine.
What does spinal decompression treat?
Disc bulge/herniation
Degenerative disc disease
Spinal stenosis
Facet syndrome
Radiculopathy (arm, leg, tingling, numbness from pinched nerves)
Does spinal decompression help slipped discs and pinched nerves?
Spinal decompression is especially useful for pinched nerves that are causing referring pain. If you have noticed numbness, tingling, weakness, or any other arm or leg symptom, the source of your pain could be coming from your spine. Additionally, if you are dealing with “slipped discs” or have dealt with a disc bulge or disc herniation in the past, and you think your symptoms are similar to what you’ve previously experience, spinal decompression is a great option. Many of our patients avoid injection therapy or even surgery. Spinal decompression offers a non-surgical, gentle approach to getting at the root cause of our spinal pain. Our doctors at MVP Chiropractic are clinical experts in diagnosing and treating spinal conditions. After a thorough examination, our chiropractors will decide if spinal decompression can help.
